Glenwillow Grille was founded in the community of Glenwillow, Ohio in 2005. The restaurant and tavern have been instrumental in the resurrection of the section of town that had long been out of use. The Glenwillow Grille sits on land once owned by the Austin Powder Mining Company. Mr. Austin Powder purchased the land in 1892 and began producing a black explosive powder, commonly used in mining as well as the manufacturing of super structures known as the interstate highway. In its time, Austin Powder was one of the oldest and largest manufacturer of this powder in North America. Today, the company still exists in Ohio, but the manufacturing plant has moved on. As a point of reference, the Austin Powder Tavern is the original site of the company’s General Store. Although nicely renovated, if you look close, you can still see markings on the walls of the tavern where shelving sat for decades.
The walls of the Tavern are the original wood from 1897. |
